Civic Atlas Mapping Platform
UX | UI | Visual Design
Overview
Civic Atlas consolidates city-wide building permit data to help real estate developers, journalists, or contractors uncover business opportunities.
The team plans to increase user engagement and test out feature concepts ahead of the next round of investments. I worked on prototypes of new features test out key value propositions
Expanding upon the beta
The team at Civic Atlas wants to increase its user base by introducing more features and a better user experience. A new data pipeline and richer filter options are introduced but there is no intuitive way to discover, multi-select, and utilize these filters.

what i did
UX Design, UI design, Prototyping
design goal
Improve the visual experience of browsing permit data search results and introduce filter functionality
With a more open-ended approach, I explored a few different features and directions in early mockups. These features range from smaller scale design changes like pop-up modals to larger user experience changes like loading building permits & zoning cases on a single webpage. After considering feasibility and a more realistic timeline, we decided to focus on the overall UI design and how 2 features could be integrated into the app: 1) Filtering and 2) List view.
final design
An open-plan map experience for finding all the building data in Dallas, Texas

Improve visibility of filters for 50+ permit types

Cleanly switch between map view and list view
